In this award winning café and retail outlet located in the heart of Hunter Valley Gardens Village.

This popular café is like walking into an old fashioned, country kitchen. Serving hearty country size meals from our all day breakfast, lunch, morning tea and afternoon tea menu, Taste of the Country cafe offers a wide variety of menu choices. Now fully licensed Taste of the Country has a range of beers and local wines available with meals.

Catering for everyone including Coeliac customers, Taste of the Country has breakfasts, burgers, wraps, main meals, desserts, our famous scones and a great range of teas as well as Crema coffee. Priding ourselves on the traditional country cooking, just like grandma’s, you get value for money and are guaranteed to have Food Like No Udder.

Our enormous burgers are made with home style beef patties, our homemade vegan patty, BLT or poached chicken breast all served on huge Turkish rolls. Try our Stockman’s Sandwich – succulent roast beef, smothered in gravy on top of buttered bread or our huge big country breakfasts. With food freshly prepared each day – the kitchen is always a hive of activity with something delicious on the boil.

Famous for our Country Ploughman’s Platter for two – guests come far and wide to enjoy this with a glass of local wine. Elevated from the other 23 shops in the village. Matilda, our Taste of the Country mascot welcomes you into the café or be enticed by the delicious smells from the cooking in the kitchen. Dine inside or walk through to the outside dining terrace, where you can enjoy the magnificent views of the Hunter Valley Gardens, vineyards and the Broken Back mountain range while you sit, relax and indulge in delicious meals.

From what started out as a passion and interest in preserving, owner Louise Jamieson’s business has developed quite dramatically over the past 13 years. Purchase some of the preserves made on site daily – all included in the menu for you to taste and then take home as a memento of your dining experience. Browse through the selective country style gift ware and wooden signs for sale, take home one of our teddies or fill up the pantry with preserves.

Allow Louise and her friendly staff to entice you with her country style menu of hearty, family favorites all prepared freshly in the kitchen with local produce and homemade preserves with Food Like No Udder.

This is a relaxed dining experience and during busy times of the day or during peak holiday seasons – expect a wait for food.

Staff will advise you of meal belays on busy days.
